Dzodze Girls On Abortion Spree

The backyard Jethrafa plant noted for its Bio-Diesel properties has become a major serious health concern at Dzodze in the Volta Region where school girls have resorted to the use of the tree to terminate unwanted pregnancy gotten during the Palm festival celebration of the peopelof Dzodze.
The Dzodze St. Anthony Roman Catholic Hospital as a result of the complications of the pregnancies, have to perform emergency surgical operations to save the lives of the school girls who are rushed to the hospital profusely bleeding.
Dr. William Gyan Dwamena, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital who disclosed these to journalists here at Dzodze said the girls insert a piece of the tree in the form of a chewing stick into their private parts to triggers the termination of the unwanted pregnancy.
After it has become apparent that the victims bleed almost to death with the loss of blood, before they are rushed to the hospital for emergency where some may not survive.
Dr Gyan Dwamena who was briefing members of the Media Communication Advocacy Network (MCAN), during a familiarization visit to the hospital, said abortion cases were on the increase at Dzodze, a situation which he said was posing a challenge to health delivery in the area.
He said some of the abortion complications have after resulted in fatalities (even though he declined to give statistics.)
