THE Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament MP) for Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. Mike Hammah, has established an educational trust fund called ‘MiHa Education Trust Fund’ to enable the needy but brilliant children in the area to acquire education.

Speaking at the launch of the fund at the University College of Education, Winneba, Mr. Hammah observed that quality education was the most powerful growth factor in every nation and that development was essentially human resource activity that depended on better education.

The minister said, it had been his dream that when voted as MP, he would establish an educational fund in order to help the needy in the area to be educated so they could contribute their quota positively to nation building.

“As MP, I felt it is time to complement the efforts of the government to ensure better education. An MP can become a change agent and if MPs understand the vision of the government, it would enhance the possibility of bringing about positive change through education,” he said.

The minister explained that the vision of the government was to ensure that every citizen, regardless of gender or social status becomes functionary literate so that Ghana could compete with the global challenge.

Mrs Sallynelly Coleman, Deputy Director of Education Service in the Effutu municipality, blamed parents for neglecting their responsibility of taking good care of their children to ensure that the children go to school.

This development she said, has contributed to the low level of education in the system.

Mrs. Coleman lauded the fund and called on parents to contribute to the fund so that they become shareholders and move the children from the streets for a better society.

Professor Kolawole Raheem, a lecturer at the University, described the gesture by the minister as “great service to the nation,” saying people could not get education because there was no money to help them and that society could only develop if the children had better education.

If, we all understand the development direction of the government, we can all be change agents. What we need in Ghana is a new mentality about who we truely are- a united family willing to develop our potentials
