President John Evan Atta Mills, on Monday assured the Muslim community of government’s preparedness to work closely with them to enhance national growth.

He also called for their support for the government, promising that his administration would work with their leadership to address the development concerns of the Muslim community in Ghana.

Addressing Muslims at the El-Wak Park in Accra to mark this year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr, the President said it was Allah’s grace that the celebration coincided with the centenary celebration of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, saying “Allah’s time is the best.”

The president conveyed the government’s wishes to Muslims, and commended them for successfully ending their month-long fasting during which they interceded for the country.

He assured them of government’s increased support towards the Hajj Pilgrimage to enable many more Ghanaian Muslims to participate in the pilgrimage without difficulty.

President Mills said his government would ensure that the organisation of the pilgrimage was done in a manner that would not be disadvantageous to poor Muslims, all of whom should have a chance to participate in the spirit-cleansing exercise.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, called on Muslims to remain united and show love.

He reminded Muslims about the significance of the celebration and urged them to be encouraged by the tenets of Islam in their daily endeavours.
